I recently had lunch with a fellow owner of a design agency like mine. We were talking about the economy, the state of our business, web hosting, and a few other things. We both shared the same concerns about the ever-increasing cost of web hosting, the hardware/software we use, taxes, and insurance. I commented that given the increased costs of everything, especially in the last year or so, my income doesn’t cover nearly what it used to.
We eventually got on the topic of hourly rates. We shared some information, and I was surprised by some of his answers. Specifically, his hourly rate was substantially higher than mine at $75/hr, even though we have the same experience (25+ years) and skill set. I looked back through my invoices, and I’ve been charging the same hourly rate for over ten years.
After doing some research and trying a few inflation calculators, I determined it was time to increase my hourly rate to more closely match the average rates of others in my industry.
Starting January 1st, my hourly rate will increase to $100. I know this will feel like a large jump, so I am offering the opportunity to purchase future hours at reduced rates.
80 hours at $65/hr ($5,200)
40 hours at $75/hr ($3,000)
30 hours at $80/hr ($2,400)
20 hours at $85/hr ($1,700)
If you would like to take advantage of these reduced rates, payment in full is due by January 15th, 2023, and all hours must be used by June 1st, 2023.
If you have any projects you have been thinking about, now would be a great time to move forward before my hourly rates and project fees increase.
